Shared Education trip to St. Nicholas- Victorian ships
P7 had a lovely day at St Nicholas' Primary School, as part of their Shared Education experience.
There were 2 activities which every child took part in. As part of our STEM approach, they were involved in problem-solving activities, to discover the principles of floating and sinking when carrying a heavy load. They were able to tell me that a ship's captain had to solve these very problems every day, when taking the ferry down Belfast Lough.
As a contrast, they also had the opportunity to be creative. They were inspired by the Victorian artist, William Morris, to create patterns or designs on polystyrene tiles, which they then painted and printed onto paper. There were some lovely pictures brought back to Sunnylands, which are up on display.
We were made very welcome by the staff and pupils of the school.
