Viking Soap!
24th Sep 2019
P6 have been using the harvest of 'conkers' on our school grounds to make soap like the Vikings.
The Vikings used the softer centre of the conkers to create a type of detergent that they used to wash themselves and clothing.
After cracking the shells with a hammer (one or two thumbs got in the way) we then ground the soft interior down using a pestle and mortar.
Once this was done, we spread the 'crumbs' on a sheet so that they can be baked to release the aroma.
Then we will soak the crumbs in water and mush into a paste before leaving it to set.
If we have done it correctly, we should have some soap by Thursday!
