Building Arch Bridges in P6...

10th May 2021

Just like the Roman's did over 2000 years ago, P6 used locally sourced materials to build an arch bridge as part of our STEM topic.

Having looked at the construction of an arch bridge, P6 were aware that we needed to look for a keystone (a trapezium shaped stone) and 2 abutment stones (flat face) plus an assortment of other stones to help with construction.

After a visit to the beach to source the stones, P6 came back to class to begin construction.

We used a curved cardboard frame to help form and support our bridge. After carefully selecting our stones, we applied cement to help reinforce the structure.

Once the cement has set, we will remove the supports and, if we have built it correctly, the bridges should support themselves!
